This Week: Music, Street Games and Love Languages... Next week: Rock Climbing Training and Dealing with Danger...

March 2  Live Music then Street Games--Frisbee, Man Hunt, Whatever and the Love Language of Gifts and Touch
4 p.m. Wesley Cottage wear clothes for being active
We’ll start with some live music and then go down to the park or school and play frisbee and/or other outside games.
We’ll talk about two Love Languages:  Gifts and Touch
In Matthew 26:6-13 and Luke 7:36-50 we see Jesus comment on the expression of love in the giving of a gift and in human touch. We'll talk about the importance of our being able to express our love using all the love languages.
Dinner will be baked potato bar. We’ll get a volunteer to bring potatoes and everyone else can bring what goes on baked potatoes.

March 9 Rock Climbing Training and Dealing with Dangerous Situations in Life
4 p.m. Wesley Cottage
We’ll get some training for rock climbing and belaying (we won't be actually 'rock climbing' this day) from Christy and Scott Thrift (the owners of Thrifty Adventures Wilderness Guiding Service). We’ll learn knots and commands and we’ll talk about the spiritual aspects of climbing.
Then we'll also get some training in what to do when we find ourselves in dangerous situations (when we're overwhelmed by despair, or in a group which is doing something we know we shouldn't, etc)
Dinner will be a sandwich bar.

Here's a picture from some of the folks enjoying last week's Feast

Fabulous Feast Night

February 23 Friendship Feast
4-6p.m. Wesley Cottage Wear a nice sweater or jacket

We’ll begin by talking about how important Quality Time and Acts of Service are to our loving relationships. Luke 10:38-42 Is the story of Mary and Martha and highlights the contrasts and complimentary nature in our love languages.

Then we’ll get started on our Feast. We’ll have beautiful food and we’ll get lessons on etiquette from a local dinner  party enthusiast. Learning etiquette will allow us to show respect to others and will equip us for the most important of dinners. This is part of developing assets in our youth as a way to build resiliency. It will be a fabulous Friendship Feast.

Katrina’s bringing the entree, Rob is brining salad and green beans…
We need people to sign up to bring: a vegetable casserole (no noodles), rolls, soup or dessert. Call Rob with questions and RSVP 828-606-3452

Come no matter if you can't bring anything or RSVP, we want you here; invite a friend and we'll see you then!

Game Night and Spaghetti

February 16 Game Night and Spaghetti pot luck
4 p.m. Wesley Cottage
We’ll be playing games (Apples to Apples, Catch Phrase or whatever else you bring)
We’ll begin our study of The Five Love Languages.
Those Five are: Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Affection, Quality Time and Gifts.
How to figure out your primary language:
1. Your upbringing can speak into your love language. How did you parents show you love growing up? What made you feel the most loved as a child? There is a high probability that is your primary love language.
2. When you really want to show someone you care about them, what first comes to your mind to show it? Your most basic instincts can show your primary love language as well.
3. Painful relational experiences can show your primary love language. If someone close to you hurt you in a deep way or neglected to show love the way you wanted, perhaps the deep hurt/dissatisfaction came because the way you most feel loved was not met. This means that what they failed to do is what you value the most because it is your primary love language.

We’ll begin with Words of Affirmation…Anxiety weighs down the human heart,
but a good word cheers it up. Proverbs 12:25
I’ll bring spaghetti and sauce and everybody else can bring what they want to go along with it (veggies, salad, desert etc)

Bring a friend and see you then…

We're Hiking on 2/9, Rain or Shine

We'll meet Sunday 2/9 at the Wesley Cottage at 4 p.m. to hike, rain or shine, sleet or snow...
It doesn't matter what the weather will be because we want to experience our beautiful winter in any fashion in which it comes. Bring a snack for the trail and we can share around. We'll pick our trail once we see the conditions and who is there (Bradley Falls is high on my list).
We'll study more of our plan for asset based ministry and read from Isaiah 58:1-12 and Matthew 5:13-20.

Sunday Practice

We won't be gathering this Sunday 2/2/14 for Stone Soup. Instead, I pray that where ever you may be this Sunday that you practice this prayer:

"Oh Lord, may my worship be transformed into action
and may my action be transformed into worship!"

Peace
Rob

(We're putting our finishing touches on our deep winter plans and we'll get fresh schedule out next week.)

The Missional Neighborhood

This Sunday we'll study some issues of being a Missional Neighborhood and have Game Night.
We'll meet at 4 and be through by 5:30. We won't have a full meal. Just bring any snacks you want to share while we play board games across the generations.

In a blog on the Missional Wisdom website Clay Horton wrote this: "Living intentionally in a neighborhood changed the way I understand mission and evangelism. Mission and evangelism simply became a part of my lifestyle, not something from a committee at a church. Not only did I pray for my neighbors daily, but I had the opportunity to form genuine relationships with the people in my cul-de-sac. Taking my dog on a walk or even checking my mail became opportunities to share the love of Christ."

We'll talk about Jesus' neighborhood mission in Matthew 4:12-23.

The Beloved Community

"The aftermath of nonviolence is the creation of the beloved community, so that when the battle is over, a new relationship comes into being between the oppressed and the oppressor."
Martin Luther King Jr. said this to express that our goal is to come together in love and not be split by the hatred that can divide us.
We'll study some about the the principles within this God-filled kind of love.
Matthew 5:43-49 ‘You have heard that it was said, “You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.” But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax-collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

ICE ON MAIN

We're going ICE SKATING Sunday 1/19/14 blending good skaters and not-so-good skaters into one beloved community.
